Port Ellen |
This distillery stands by Port Ellen, a gateway to the South of Isle of
Islay. It was established in 1825. The distillery was run by many managers
and it was closed and reopened few times. It finally closed in 1983 and
pot stills were removed. Itfs now a big malting plant and they supply
malts to other distilleries. When I enter Port Ellen with ferry boat, I miss the big red pagoda that used to be the symbol of the distillery. The warehouse is now in condition and used by Lagavulin distillery. |
